Dash Infielder Ryan Burrowes Earns SAL Player of the Week After Explosive Series
By The Winston-Salem Moravian Sentinel Staff · July 18, 2026
Ryan Burrowes packed four home runs, five stolen bases and a.423 average into six games against the Asheville Tourists from July 7–12 — the kind of week that put one Winston-Salem prospect at the center of a larger Dash story.
Minor League Baseball announced that the Dash infielder earned South Atlantic League Player of the Week honors for that performance. Burrowes became the fourth Dash player to claim the league's weekly award in 2026, joining Colby Shelton, Caleb Bonemer and George Wolkow — a pattern that signals Winston-Salem's emergence as a legitimate player-development destination, not just a franchise waystation.
Burrowes posted a.423/.516/.923 slash line over the series, adding a double, 10 runs scored, six RBIs and five walks. MLB.com named him the second baseman on its Prospect Team of the Week for the week of July 13, 2026.
The 21-year-old utility infielder and outfielder is ranked as the Chicago White Sox No. 28 prospect. Born in Panama City, Panama, on Aug. 17, 2004, Burrowes signed with the White Sox for $75,000 in 2022. He has played multiple positions, including second base, shortstop, third base and left field, though he has primarily manned second base for the Dash in 2026. A plus runner with a 60 running grade from MLB Pipeline, he leads all White Sox minor leaguers in stolen bases with 31 this season.
The power surge was the week's biggest surprise. Burrowes doubled his season home run total, going from 4 to 8, suggesting an offensive evolution beyond his speed-first profile. For the season through mid-July, he is hitting.265. His performance helped keep the Dash competitive in the South Atlantic League South Division second-half standings.
Burrowes' award fits a pattern the Dash can point to with pride.
Colby Shelton earned Player of the Week for April 14–19 after going 11-for-23 with 14 RBIs and three home runs against Asheville, then claimed Minor League Baseball Player of the Month for April. Caleb Bonemer won the weekly honor for April 28–May 3 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. George Wolkow followed for May 19–24 against Greensboro, posting a.522/.577/1.043 slash line with 12 hits. In 2025, Braden Montgomery was the lone Dash player to earn the award. The jump from one weekly honor to four marks a dramatic shift in individual performance recognition.
At the center of that development infrastructure is manager Guillermo Quiroz, returning for his third season leading the Dash after spending 2025 managing the Double-A Birmingham Barons. "We want to teach them the game of baseball the right way," Quiroz said. His philosophy centers on honesty, ensuring every player understands their role within the organization, and keeping them mentally engaged through extra work and daily play.
The 2026 coaching staff includes bench coach Tyler Coolbaugh, pitching coach Jacob Dorris, hitting coach Adam Sinkoe, performance coach Logan Jones and athletic trainer Austin Smith. Dorris, Sinkoe and Coolbaugh are newcomers this season, while Jones and Smith are returning members. Sinkoe's intensity was on display July 10 when he was ejected while vigorously protesting a strikeout during a late-inning rally.
The facilities match the coaching investment. Truist Stadium received upgrades totaling $6.65 million, including a new performance center and batting tunnel added prior to the 2024 season and a second hitting/pitching tunnel built to meet MLB-mandated High-A standards. Additional improvements covered the training room, commissary, shower and toilet facilities and locker rooms for home and visiting teams. A new $2 million LED videoboard — 147% larger than its predecessor — arrived for the 2025 season.
Community support has been equally strong. The Dash ranked in the top two in attendance among 30 Class A Advanced teams for its first ten seasons at Truist Stadium, becoming the fastest Class A Advanced team to reach one million fans and the second-fastest to reach two million in a new venue. The stadium hosts over 200 events annually, including weddings and proms, and in 2026 the Dash and Signature Real Estate are staging a Signature Community Nights Series featuring free, family-friendly movie nights. The team is also offering more giveaways than ever, targeting youth fans and general attendees.
Former Dash players promoted to the majors by the White Sox in 2026 include Braden Montgomery, Sam Antonacci, Noah Schultz, Rikuu Nishida and Jacob Gonzalez. The combination of four Player of the Week awards, multiple big-league promotions and a competitive second-half standing reflects a development ecosystem functioning at a high level.
Burrowes' breakout week — and the pattern of award-winning performances it joins — demonstrates that Winston-Salem is not just hosting minor league baseball but actively shaping the trajectory of prospects on their way to the majors. The city's reputation as a player-development hub now rests on tangible evidence: coaching continuity, state-of-the-art facilities, sustained community support and a track record of prospects who thrive here before advancing.
